Relationship Marketing involves using methods and tactics to develop long term relationship with customers in order to retain them.

In the tourism industry, ‘relationship marketing’ refers to developing a detailed understanding of what your clients want from a holiday and working to fulfill these wants.

Relationship marketing might be helpful in attracting more visitors to tourist sites are:

  • Know your potential customers:  by visiting forums, discussion groups and discussion boards you are able to find prospects there. You should know what they are looking for, how they want their problems to be solved.  By helping them so as you can have more attraction of visitors to tourist sites.

  • Provide a customer database or file: It is essential you make sure that you have records with value details of your customers whether or not you may have many clients/customers or just a few of them. The details of the records may include their purchase history, special dates such as their birthday or anniversary, family member names or their favorite restaurant or leisure activity. This method would help by attracting visitors to tourist sites.

  • Show your expertise: having technical and competent skilled workers which you can show to your targeted market that you are the leader in the industry in other for them to be able to serve your customers as they come to you.

  • Be responsive: It is necessary for company to respond promptly to their customers. Whenever they have questions or need help, quickly return to them either by calls or emails. Arrive on time or better still, prior to meetings and appointments, show venue, time and agenda. 

  • Give extra value: Go beyond expectations. Ensure to give more than your clients are expecting so they are dazzled and anxious to work with you more. Act as if their business is your business and their problems are your problems and help them in any way you can.

  • Start a dialog to establish trust: creating a continuing dialog to establish trust. Trust is an important step in building long-time relationship. This dialog should starts as soon as your visitors submit information along with their email addresses. This explains their interest in your business. In return, you give them what promised when they subscribed and keep contacts at periodic intervals by sending quality information to your subscribers.

  • Offer good customer service: By providing great customer service to the people you do business with, you will get customers coming back to you again and again to patronize what you offer.

  • Sell or recommend only quality products or services: Sell quality products or offer services that have value, plus offer a guarantee and stand behind it. One of the quickest ways to destroy a business relationship is selling poor quality products and not standing behind what you promise or having poor offering services.

  • Think of your client: showing care and willingness by helping them in their business is a key thing to market relationship, because whether you actually help them to win more clients or send them useful things, like newspaper clippings relevant to their industry or opportunities to network. Going above and beyond the call of duty is something that clients will never forget.

  • show gratitude to your client: Never take your client for granted, remember to thank your client whenever possible. Send cards, gifts or 'thank you' notes. These are small gestures but hugely effective at cementing a good relationship and ensuring your client always comes back for more.
